Privacy
The Osob Adus for Ward 6 campaign collects only the information we need to communicate with you and to comply with Ontario municipal election rules.
Information We Collect
When you email us, sign up to volunteer, RSVP to an event, or contribute to the campaign, we store the information you provide so we can follow up and so we can report contributions to the City Clerk as required by the Ontario Municipal Elections Act.
For donations, we are required to record contributor name and address to comply with reporting rules. Contributors over the reporting threshold are listed in our financial filing with the City of Burlington.
Website Analytics
This website uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand which pages are useful to visitors. The analytics service we use does not set cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not collect personally identifying information. We see counts of page visits, the country a visit originated from, and which sites linked here, and that is all.
Advertising Measurement
When the campaign runs ads on Meta (Facebook and Instagram), this site uses the Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API to measure how those ads perform. When you RSVP to an event or contribute to the campaign, we send Meta a record of that event so they can match it to the ad you may have seen.
Before sending personal details (such as email, name, phone, and city) to Meta, we apply one-way cryptographic hashing so the original values cannot be recovered from what Meta receives. Meta uses the hashed values only to match supporters to existing Meta accounts for attribution. We do not share information for any other advertising purpose, and we do not sell supporter data.
You can opt out of Meta's ad personalization in your Meta account settings, and most browsers offer extensions (like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger) that block the Pixel entirely. Either step is fully compatible with using this site.
How We Use Information
We use the information you provide to reply to your message, follow up about volunteering or events, send campaign updates if you have asked for them, and meet our legal reporting requirements. We do not sell, rent, or share supporter information with third parties outside of what is required by law.
Text Messages (SMS)
If you give your phone number and check the box to receive text messages, the campaign may text you updates such as event invitations, reminders, and volunteer requests. You only receive texts if you opt in, and consent to texts is never a condition of volunteering, donating, or anything else.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message, and you can reply HELP for help. We do not share or sell mobile numbers, and we do not share mobile opt-in data with third parties for their own marketing. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
How We Protect Your Information
We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe. Supporter data is held in access-controlled systems, transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and limited to the people running the campaign who need it. Payment details are handled by Stripe, our payment processor, and are never stored on our own servers. We keep information only as long as we need it for campaign communication and for the recordkeeping the Ontario Municipal Elections Act requires. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to limit who can access it.
Your Choices
If you'd like a copy of the information we have on you, want it corrected, or want it removed, email connect@osobward6.ca and we'll take care of it. Where the Municipal Elections Act requires us to retain donation records, those records remain on file for the period the Act prescribes.
